Chemical Peels

Chemical peels use a safe chemical solution to brighten your skin and smooth the texture of your skin by removing the damaged outer layers.

Houston Chemical Peel Specialists

Chemical Peels are one of the most common cosmetic procedures with a very high rate of patient satisfaction.  The Houston chemical peel aesthetician at Village Dermatology perform chemical peels daily, and they can help you improve the tone and texture of your skin.

Particularly for patients in Houston, chemical peels can help fight the damage caused by the years and the sun.

What Are the Effects of a Chemical Peel Treatment on the Skin?

A chemical peel can help improve:

  • the appearance of acne or mild acne scars

  • age spots

  • fine lines

  • wrinkles

  • freckles

  • irregular skin pigmentation

  • rough skin

  • scaly patches

  • mild scars

  • sun-damaged skin

Though chemical peels can accomplish quite a bit, they won't help for deep facial wrinkles, loose or sagging skin, broken capillaries, pore size, or deep acne scars.  We have other cosmetic treatments that can help with these conditions.

Types of Chemical Peels We Perform

Chemical peels can range from very superficial (light peeling, minimal downtime) to very deep (more redness and peeling, longer healing time).

Although the most common area for chemical peels is the face, they can also be performed on the neck, chest, back, arms, and hands.  The procedure is safe, easy, and effective with minimal downtime.

Post-Treatment Instructions for Peel Patients

Two Days After the Procedure

  • Stay cool! Heating internally can cause hyperpigmentation.

  • Do not put treated area directly into a hot shower spray.

  • Do not use hot tubs, steam rooms or saunas.

  • Do not go swimming.

  • Do not participate in activities that would cause excessive perspiration.

  • Do not use loofahs or other means of exfoliation.

  • Do not apply ice or ice water to the treated area.

General Guidelines

  • After receiving a chemical peel, the skin may look and feel like a mild windburn for the next 2 or 3 days. After 48 hours, a slight flaking may occur for 3 to 5 days which can easily be controlled with moisturizers.

  • It is recommended that makeup not be applied the day of treatment, as it is ideal to allow the skin to stabilize and rest overnight. But next day and following is fine.

  • To minimize side effects and maximize results, use the post care given by your treating aesthetician for 3 to 5 days or until flaking has resolved. The more you moisturize the better you will feel and you need to always use SPF during the day.

  • Moisturizer should be applied at least 2-3x a day but can be applied more frequently for hydration and to decrease the appearance of flaking.

  • Avoid direct sun exposure and excessive heat. An SPF of at least 30 must be used daily.

  • Do not pick or pull on any loosening skin. This could potentially cause hyperpigmentation.

  • Do not have any other facial treatment for at least one week after your peel. You may resume the regular use of retinoids, alpha-hydroxy acid, beta hydroxy acid, vitamin c or bleaching creams ONLY after peeling process is complete.

Reminder: The more you moisturize the better your skin will feel and recuperate.
